June

Welcome to our Bed and Breakfast!

June 2-9
Robert left for a conference, so Stephanie came to spend the week with me. We went to Virginia Beach for 2 nights, and then came back home to watch a ridiculous amount of sappy, girly movies.

June 9-14
Robert's mom, aunt, adult cousin, and her 2 teenagers arrive. We went to DC and Virginia Beach while they were here, and showed them around Richmond some. We took them out to Thai food for the first time, but I don't think any of them are ever going back for it again.

June 22-27
Robert's dad, 2 aunts, 5 teenage cousins, and 1 of their friends arrive. No DC this time, but we did go to Virginia Beach and toured a lot of the Richmond Civil War sites with Tony, Robert's dad.

June 29-July 3
My mom, dad, stepdad, brother, sister-in-law, and baby nephew are here. We went to DC for the day, and to Medieval Times. We also went to Kings Dominion and played in the water park all day. The next day we left for Virginia Beach (my dad's, stepdad's and Peyt's first time in the ocean).

We had a great time this month, and got to see almost everyone in our family! All of them except for the June 22-27 crew stayed with us in our apartment. We were tired when it was all over but sad to see them go. We couldn't rest though, 2 days after the last tour group left, we left too--for ........

AFRICA!

May

Let's see......

We got a new nephew! #5. Welcome to world Baby Caleb.

April

Ashley came out to visit on her way to a dance thing in DC, and Stephanie unexpectedly got sent to DC for work the same weekend! So, change of plans, I went to DC with Ashley and hung out with the both of them for the weekend. It was the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, but it was so cold that most of them didn't bloom. Nevertheless, we had a great time. Here's proof:

One of the few blooms I saw.

The obligatory White House shot.

Do you see the resemblance?

More parade floats

March

We went to Philadelphia for my conference. It was a great time, and the first time either of us had been there. We had good weather at first, so we walked to ChinaTown and ended up eating Malaysian food (another first). While were there VCU played Duke (and beat) in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. The next morning was my talk and VCU was on the cover of the USA Today that everyone at the hotel got outside their door. I started my talk by saying I was from VCU-you know, the school on the front page of USA Today? No one laughed or cracked a smile. Tough crowd.

It snowed after that but that didn't slow us down. We saw the traveling King Tut exhibit and went to the Museum of Fine Arts like Rocky. A kind Philadelphian sang the "Rocky song" the whole way as we ran up the steps. I guess it's the City of Brotherly Love after all.

Here are some pics.

The Liberty Bell

Independence Hall

(This is where Robert asked the Park Service guy if the movie "National Treasure" was filmed here, after we tried to find the brick and clue that the main guy found in the movie. Yes, we're nerds.)
